This is one of those records that came out of nowhere and happily blew my mind.
A stunning version of the James Brown classic from Judy and Piña with a nice modern twist on the lyrics that treads the perfect line between dubwise soul and reggae. Then just wait til you flip it over and hear the dub! Stripping it right back and putting the bass to the forefront it heads almost into trip hop territory. With the strings and the those striking vocals it's reminiscent of early Portishead (which is definitely no bad thing in my book..) and feels like the perfect accompaniment to Mad Professor's epic dubbed out soul of What's Going On from earlier in the year. A really, really great dub that takes the original to a whole new level.
Very limited run 7" on Gatzara Records out of Barcelona served up in hand stamped sleeves. Pre-ordering highly advisable.
