Stunning piece of Ghanaian roots by way of Finland from Ekowmania on Jimi Tenor's Ronet label celebrating the life and achievements of Ghana's first president Kwame Nkrumah.
The A-side is a really lovely update on the traditional roots sound but I have to confess that my mind was completely blown by the acapella dub mix on the flip from the genius that is DJ Sotofett. There is very little acapella reggae around (probably Barrington Levy's Vibes Is Right is the most famous example but I would also recommend checking the acapella mix of Sister Rasheda's Praise H.I.M.) and something magical seems to happen when the bass and drums that play such a central role in reggae are removed and the voice is just left to deliver it's powerful message on it's own.
A really very special and unique record.
