Prince Philip Presents: Dubplates & Raw Rhythm from King Tubby's Studio 1973-1976 2xLP

DKR

Regular price £31.99

Back In Stock Incredible 20 track double LP of all previously unreleased deep cuts and dubs from Tubby's very first apprentice - the late great “Prince” Philip Smart.

If you're already a Tubby nut I don't need to tell you how exciting and important this release is and even if you only have a passing interest in dub this collection represents a vital document in showcasing a crucial period in the genre's development and highlighting its subsequent influence on remix culture which has formed the backbone of modern dance music.

I think this record is particularly important as Philip Smart is probably not as well known as either Tubby himself or the other engineers that worked in his studio so maximum respect to DKR for doing what they do best here and digging deep to put this together and shining a light on this somewhat unsung hero of reggae.

To be honest the music speaks for itself here. It's pure quality from start to finish. You might recognise some of the rhythms but you will have never have heard them like this before. A superb and essential archival release.
