Fantastic five tracker from Melbourne's Leo James delivering a welcome treasure trove of dubwise sounds for both the head and the feet.
It's probably no surprise to hear that my attention was initially grabbed by the monumental "Burst The Gates" that makes great use a vocal sample that many of you will recognise (from Alpha & Omega as well as Eric B and Rakim...) creating a steppers-techno hybrid of epic proportions that builds beautifully before dropping the vocal in at just the right moment to devastating effect.
As well as big basslines I'm also a sucker for a bit of breakbeat I'm glad to report there's no shortage of that on this record. From the bass heavy trip-hop (or should I say dub-hop) of "No Return" to the dubwise skeletal drum and bass of "Olive Grove" to the warm breakbeat techno of title track "Better Days" there's plenty of seismic sub bass and tight drum breaks to enjoy before proceedings are brought to a close with the blissful ambience of "A Thousand White Kites Flying High Above The Sea."
All copies also come with a Bandcamp code so you can get your hands on the digital version too.
