One of my all time favourite pieces of music. Sublime jazz influenced deep roots instrumental from two legendary Jamaican musicians - drummer Count Ossie and guitarist Ernest Ranglin.
A really very beautiful and timeless piece of music that doesn't sound quite like anything else. Originally recorded in 1970 for Sonia Pottinger's Gay Feet label when it was released under the title "Earth Song" it appears here as "Lulumba" on a very nice reissue 7" from Japan's Dub Store with the original cut on the B-side and then an alternative take on the A-side.
Also worth noting that it sounds pretty great played at 33rpm taking the whole thing into a more laid back jazz direction emphasising Ranglin’s exemplary guitar playing and as a result was featured in the Wrong Speed Bangers list I complied a few years back for Test Pressing.
