Stunning update on the classic Bristol sound here from Cold Light on Peak Oil's FO sub-label.
Whilst continuing the lineage established by the likes of Massive Attack and Smith & Mighty there is absolutely nothing retro about this release. It feels like it's been beamed in from a dark future shaped by dense yet delicate soundscapes drawing influence from not only trip-hop but also dub techno and dark ambient creating the perfect sonic backdrop for the poignantly haunting lyrics that flow from blunted rap to spoken word to dub poetry.
It only took me one listen and I was completely hooked. I suspect this is will reappear in December towards the top of many end of year lists..
Superb record.
